Panthers Make Great Return to Action at Gamecock Opener
COLUMBIA, SC - The Claflin Panthers indoor track & field team kicked off the 2025 portion of the season in a big way with some great performances at the Gamecock Opener. The team had some terrific efforts both on the track and in field events.
On the track, the Claflin sprinters stole the show. Claflin senior
Zion Murry set the tone when he won the men's 600m run. He ran a 1:19.16 to claim the top spot. Junior sprinter
Jaevon Riley added a second-place finish in the men's 400m dash with a 47.50. The time is currently the second-best in the nation and is a provisional qualifying time for the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet. Junior
Reginald Gore placed second in the men's 1000m run with a 2:31.47.
In field events, the Panthers had some great jumps. Senior
Jocolbi Morgan led the way when the placed fourth in the men's triple jump. He recorded a 47' 4.25" (14.43m) jump.
The Panthers will return to action, Friday, when they head to Blacksburg, Virginia to take part in the Virginia Tech Invite.
