Heyward Named CIAA Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week
CHARLOTTE, NC - Claflin sophomore guard Tacoya Heyward was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year, Monday afternoon. She took home the honor after a stellar performance in the team's 76-42 road win over the Converse Valkyries.
Tacoya earned the honor after putting in a terrific effort at both ends of the court. She finished the game, leading all players with 11 rebounds in the game, including 10 on the defensive end. She also added four steals as well. The effort came as a part of a tremendous overall game. At the other end of the court, she added seven points and she had five assists in the game as well.
Heyward and the Lady Panthers will return to action, Monday, when they head to nearby Denmark, South Carolina to take on the Voorhees Tigers in a 5:30 p.m. game.
