Morris Named 2024-25 CIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year

CHARLOTTE, NC - A season filled with hard work and effort paid off, Sunday, evening when Claflin senior guard Nya Morris was named the 2024-25 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Year. The announcement was made at the 2025 CIAA Tip-Off Banquet at the Baltimore Convention Center.
 
Nya Morris All-ConferenceIt was Morris' terrific scoring efforts that brought home the honor. Throughout the 2024-25 regular season, Morris established herself as one of the best scorers in the nation. This season, she finished the regular season as the CIAA's leading scorer and she is ranked 12th in the nation. She finished the regular season with 519 total points and averaging 20.0 points per game. During the season, she had several terrific game. She scored 29 points in a win at Livingstone. It was a career-high until her 32-point game against the Winston-Salem State Rams.
 
The honor was an historical one for the Lady Panthers as Morris is first Claflin women's basketball player to be named CIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Former Lady Panther Ashley Fields was named the 2018-19 CIAA Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Year.
 
Morris and the Lady Panthers will kick off the 2025 CIAA Women's Basketball Championship Tournament at 12:16 p.m., tomorrow when they take on the Elizabeth City State Lady Vikings.
