ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Panthers (14-9, 7-5 CIAA) clicked on all cylinders on their way to a 75-62 win over the Livingstone College Blue Bears (10-12, 3-9 CIAA), Wednesday evening. The Panthers combined some great defense with a stellar offensive effort to claim the win.
As a team, the Panthers put on a dominant effort in a game that they controlled from beginning to the end. The Panthers shot a scorching hot 51.8% (29-of-56) from the floor while holding Livingstone to shooting just 33.3% (22-of-66) from the floor. The Panthers had another balanced effort with four players in double-digit scoring in the game. Claflin senior guard
Gregory Spurlock led the way with 18 points and a steal in the game. Fellow senior
Jailen Williams added 15 points with three assists. Senior forward
John Whitehead, III, added 10 points with four rebounds while senior forward
Zion Obanla added 11 points off the bench. Claflin senior center
HowVante Hutcherson led the Panthers' rebounding efforts with eight in the game.
With the win, the Panthers improve to 14-9 overall and 7-5 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action, Saturday, when they host the Winston-Salem State Rams.
