ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (12-6, 8-4 CIAA) rolled to their third straight victory when the team took a 61-45 win over the Shaw Lady Bears (7-12, 5-7 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Lady Panthers took the win behind a dominating defensive effort and claimed their third straight win.
The Lady Panthers got the game started with a stellar defensive effort and never looked back. As a team, Claflin University forced 30 turnovers while holding the Lady Bears to shooting just 29.6% (16-of-54) from the floor. With their strong defensive effort powering the effort, the Lady Panthers put on a solid offensive effort. The team shot 41.7% (25-of-60) from the floor in the game. Claflin senior forward
Ashari Lewis led the way with 23 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots in the game. Freshman guard
Makailah Davis added 11 points with two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Sophomore center
Olivia Randolph added a near double-double with six points, eight rebounds, four blocked shots, and four steals.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 12-6 overall and 8-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action, Tuesday, when they host the benedict Tigers in a 5:30 p.m. game.
