Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Columbia College, winning Game One 4-0 and falling in Game Two 5-4, today, February 19, at the Adden Street Field in Orangeburg.  With the split, the Lady Panthers record goes to 3-6 on the short season.

Claflin scored two runs in the third and two in the fifth en route the Game One victory.  Jasmine Squirewell hit a two run homer with two outs to give the Lady Panthers its first two runs of the game.

After Jamelah Thomas doubled down the left-field line with one out, a throwing error by the Koalas pitcher allowed Chelsea Hall to reach second base and bring Thomas home for the third run.  Hall stole third and eventually scored for Claflin's fourth run of the game.

Tiara Norman picked up the complete game victory with the one-hit shutout.  Anna Davis was the losing pitcher for the Koalas in Game One.

Claflin got on the board first in Game Two, scoring one run in the bottom of the first.  Columbia College put up one run in the top of the second and two in the top of the third to take a 3-1 advantage.  The Lady Panthers got one of the runs back in the bottom of the third as an RBI single by Shaquailla German bought in Hall.  Claflin held the Koalas scoreless over the next three innings.

In the bottom of the sixth Thomas and Courtney Burns both reached base via singles.  Kayla Sanderson hit a two-run single with two outs to push the Lady Panthers ahead by one, 4-3.

Kylie Godley led off the top of the seventh with a single down the right-field line.  Lynnsey Hanks reached via fielder's choice and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  A RBI triple by Davis scored Hanks to tie the game at 4-all. A wild pitch allowed Davis to score the go-ahead run.

Claflin could not get any runs across the plate in its half of the seventh, thus falling by the one run margin.

Erin Blizzard picked up the win in the contest while Shaquailla German was the losing pitcher in Game Two.

The Lady Panthers will six days off before returning to action.  Claflin will travel to Augusta, Ga. to open its 2016 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play against Paine College.  The three-game series is set for next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26 and 27.
