Claflin Softball Goes 1-3 to Open the 2017 Season

Orangeburg, S.C.—The Claflin University softball team went 1-3 over the 2017 opening weekend.  The Lady Panthers went 1-1 on Saturday (Feb. 4) versus Fayetteville State and 0-2 on Sunday (Feb. 5) at Francis Marion.
 
On Saturday, Claflin defeated Fayetteville State 7-0 in game one of the doubleheader and fell to the Lady Broncos 16-14 in game two.
 
Senior Chelsea Hall paced the Lady Panthers with three runs, five hits, including a double and triple, with four RBIs and three stolen bases.
 
Freshman Erica Davis finished the doubleheader with three runs, three hits, including her first collegiate homerun and three RBIs.
 
Davis had a solid outing on the mound in game one, pitching a three inning no hitter with one walk and three strikeouts.
 
Junior Tiaria Norman came in relief and pitch four innings with two hits and no runs while fanning five to pick up the win.
 
Nyesha Arnold was the losing pitcher of record for the second game.
 
On Sunday, the Lady Panthers could not find much offense in dropping a doubleheader to Francis Marion, 8-0 and 14-3.
 
Claflin only managed one hit in game one and six in game two.
 
Sophomore LaKaylin Lee was the loser in game one and Davis was credited with the loss in game two.
 
The Lady Panthers will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when they travel Winston-Salem State in a non-conference doubleheader.
