Lady Panthers Host Albany State in Non-Conference Game

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University Lady Panthers will face Albany State University in a non-conference matchup on Monday (Jan. 14) at the Tullis Arena.

The contest gets underway at 5:30 p.m.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams since Claflin departed the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) last summer and joined the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

This season, Claflin is 8-8 overall with a 2-4 record outside of the CIAA, while Albany State is 5-12 and winless in non-conference play at 0-10.

The Lady Panthers are currently 5-1 at home this season, following a 77-66 win over CIAA foe Shaw University last week. The conference outing saw freshman Dashia Jackson fire in a career-high 26 points in posting her 10th game in double-figure the season. Jackson was 9-of-18 from the field in the game including four three-pointers.

Jackson is averaging 12.0 points for the season with 29 three-pointers, second best on the team.

Graduate guard Ashley Fields also had a productive outing against Shaw, pouring in 23 points and pulling down 11 rebounds in recording her fourth double-double of the season. Fields currently leads the Lady Panthers in scoring and rebounding at 16.1 points and 7.6 rebounds.

As for Albany State, the Golden Rams suffered an 80-69 loss to Fort Valley State University this past Saturday (Jan. 14).

Albany State is led in scoring by Alexander James at 11.8 and rebounding by Tyra Thompson at 4.7 pg.

Claflin and Albany State have met 18 times on the hardwood since the Lady Panthers became an NCAA Division II member. Over that period, Albany State holds a 12-6 advantage including a 7-4 advantage in Orangeburg.

Following the Albany State game, Claflin will return to CIAA action at home on Wednesday (Jan 16) against Virginia State University.
