Claflin Host Barton College in 2019 Softball Home Opener

Orangeburg, S.C. – After playing its first 13 games on the road to open the season, the Claflin University softball will host Barton College in its 2019 home opener, Saturday, Feb 23. First pitch for game one of the non-conference double header is set for 2 p.m. with the second game starting approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of game one.

Claflin, 5-8, we be looking to rebound from an 0-2 doubleheader lost to Coker College on Thursday (Feb. 21).

Kayla Cato paced the Lady Panthers in the double header with three hits including a homerun, her fourth on the season, along with two runs and two RBIs. LaKaylin Lee finished the day with two runs and two hits on the day.

On the season, Cato leads Claflin with 16 hits followed by Chaston Huntly with 13 hits. As a team, the Lady Panthers have 111 hits including 15 homeruns.

Barton, who enters the double header with a 2-7 overall record, is coming off a 12-2 loss to Charleston (WV) on last Sunday (Feb. 17). McCrae Knapp and Samantha Santmyers had the runs for the Bulldogs in the loss.

On the season Jordan Blake has nine hits and Sidney Gronowski and Hannah Jones has six runs each to lead Barton.

Claflin will remain home on Monday (Feb. 25) when they host USC Aiken in a non-conference double header.
