Claflin Track and Field Has Solid Showing in Opening Meet

Columbia, S.C. (Jan. 17-18, 2020) — The Claflin University men's and women's track and field team had solid showings last Friday-Saturday (Jan. 17-18) as they opened the 2020 Indoor Track and Filed season at the University of South Carolina Gamecock Opener.
 
The Panther men, was led by junior sprinter Ashtin Knowles.
 
Knowles ran a personal best 34.99 in the 300 meters in route to capturing the bronze medal.  Knowles also finished 28th out of 121 competitors in the 200 meters, clocking a time of 22.27.
 
Also finishing in the top 10 for the Claflin men was sophomore LaCarlos Watlington, who placed 7th in the 300 meters in a time of 35.85. 


On the women side, freshman Alliyah Allwood paced the Lady Panthers finishing tied for 17th in the 60 meters.  In here first-ever 800 meters, the lone senior Faith McKie, posted a 2:31.55 to finish 31st among 53 competitors.
 
Sophomore Zaria Nelson threw an 11.09 meters (36-04.75) to finish 25th overall in the shot put.
 
Both teams will return to action this Saturday-Sunday, January 25-26 at the JDL Flat is Flat Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
