Claflin Softball Set to Host Charleston (WV)

Orangeburg, S.C. -- The Claflin University softball team will be looking to win its second straight doubleheader when they host the University of Charleston (WV) in a non-conference doubleheader, Friday, Feb. 14.  First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the North Road Complex in Orangeburg.
 
Claflin, 3-5, will enter the contests after defeating Anderson University in a doubleheader on Sunday (Feb.).  Bre'Zhay Chambers, this week CIAA Pitcher of the Week, was solid on the mound in game one, going the distance, giving up just four hits with the one unearned run and nine strikeouts in game one.
 
The CIAA Offensive Player of the Week Chaston Huntly was the hero of game two with two homeruns, including a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh.
 
On the season, Jada Ames leads the Lady Panthers at the plate, batting an outstanding .636 with 14 hits including five doubles.  As a team, Claflin is batting .277 and have 54 hits, 14 doubles, a triple and three homeruns.
 
This is the season opener for Charleston (WV) who finished the season 33-21.
 
After the Charleston (WV) doubleheader, Claflin will host Slippery Rock in a doubleheader on Sunday (Feb. 16) at 12 and 2 p.m.
