ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (1-2) opened home court in a big way when the team took a 106-40 win over the Morris (S.C.) Hornets (1-4). The Lady Panthers were especially impressive on defense as the team held the Hornets to just 40 points and just 16 field goals made in their first win of the season.
The Lady Panthers dominated the game from the very beginning and never looked back. The team went ahead of the Hornets by as many as 71 points, 100-29, with 6:38 left in the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers also forced 28 turnovers and held their opponents to shooting just 26.7% (16-of-60) from the floor. It was a balanced attack that powered the Claflin offense with four players reaching double digit scoring. Senior guard
Janelle Sample led the way with 18 points and five rebounds while senior guard
Nya Morris added 17 points with five steals. Junior guard
Ariel Lucas scored a career-high 16 points. Junior forward
Ashari Lewis added 11 points while senior forward
Leigha Harris added 10 points.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 1-2 overall. The team will return to action, Saturday, when they host the Voorhees Tigers in a Homecoming game.
