RICHMOND, VA - The Claflin Lady Panthers (3-3, 0-1 CIAA) opened Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play on a down note when the team took a 75-47 loss to the Virginia Union Panthers (5-3, 1-0 CIAA), Thursday. Though there was no shortage of effort by the Lady Panthers, the team could not seem to get their offense going in the hard-fought loss.
As a team, the short-handed Lady Panthers struggled throughout the game. The normally potent Claflin offense was held to just 47 points in the game and shot just 34.4% (21-of-61) from the floor and just 17.0% (three-for-17) from the three-point line. Claflin senior guard
Nya Morris led the way for the Lady Panthers with 15 points and seven rebounds in the game. She also added a pair of steals. Junior forward
Ashari Lewis added a career-high 12 points with a blocked shot in the game as well.
With the loss, the Lady Panthers fell to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in CIAA play. The team will return to action, Saturday, when they head to Bowie, Maryland to take on the Bowie State Bulldogs.
