BOWIE, MD - The Claflin Lady Panthers (3-4, 0-2 CIAA) came up just short in a dramatic 53-45 overtime road loss to the Bowie State Bulldogs (7-4, 2-0 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Lady Panthers held a late lead in regulation, but the team allowed Bowie State to tie the game and were outscored 12-4 in the overtime period.
The Lady Panthers put on an impressive performance despite the loss. As a team, the Lady Panthers shot just 30.6% (15-of-49) from the floor and committed 40 turnovers. Claflin senior guard
Nya Morris led the way for the team with 21 points and three steals in the game. She also added seven rebounds. She was the only Lady Panther to reach double-digit scoring, junior forward
Ashari Lewis added a near double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
With the loss, the Lady Panthers fall to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The Lady Panthers will close out their road trip with a trip to Pennsylvania to take on the Lincoln (Pa.) Lady Lions, Monday evening.
