WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (9-6, 5-3 CIAA) held on late to claim a 57-55 win road win over the Winston-Salem State Rams (3-11, 0-6 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. For the second time this week, the Lady Panthers had to make some clutch plays in the final minute of play to seal their win.
The Lady Panthers played a solid game on their way to the win. As a team, the Lady Panthers shot 35.7% (20-of-56) from the floor to claim the win. Claflin senior guard
Nya Morris once again led the way for the team with 23 points, three steals, and six rebounds to claim the win. Fellow senior guard
Janelle Sample added 12 points with a pair of steals and three rebounds.
While the Lady Panthers took control of the game early and extended their lead to as many as 11 points, 23-12, after a jumper from junior forward
Ashari Lewis, the Lady Panthers' lead was cut down to just one point, 56-55, with just 1:24 left in the fourth quarter. From there, the Lady Panthers clamped down defensively and held WSSU scoreless in the final minute of the game. A Morris free throw with four seconds left to play sealed the win.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 9-6 overall and 5-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play.
After four straight road games, the Lady Panthers will finally return home when the team hosts the Fayetteville State Broncos in the 2025 PAWS Up HBCU Classic. The game will be televised nationally on The Grio.
