BLUEFIELD, WV - The Claflin Lady Panthers (7-5, 3-3 CIAA) wasted little time in getting their first win of 2025 when the team cruised to a 69-62 road win over the Bluefield State Big Blue (6-7, 0-3 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Lady Panthers took control of the game early and they never looked back as they took the win.
As a team, the Lady Panthers played a solid overall game. The team shot 46.4% (26-of-56) from the field and totaled 44 rebounds. Claflin senior guard
Nya Morris led the way for the team with 22 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Graduate guard
Janelle Sample added 10 points with six rebounds, and an assist while junior forward
Ashari Lewis recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Panthers took control of the game in the first three minutes of play and never looked back. The team went ahead by as many as 20 points, 49-29, after a Morris lay-up with 8:05 left in the third quarter. From there, the Lady Panthers never trailed and went on to claim the win.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improved to 7-5 overall and 3-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action, Wednesday, when they head to nearby Columbia, South Carolina to take on the Allen (S.C.) Yellowjackets.
