Panthers Take a 21-3 Loss to Augusta

ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Panthers (5-16-1, 0-7 PBC) opened their Saturday doubleheader on a down note when the team took a 21-3 loss to the Augusta Jaguars (7-19, 4-7 PBC), Saturday afternoon. Though the Panthers had their trademark great hitting performance, the team could not keep up with the Jaguars in the loss.

As a team, the Panthers had another strong day at the plate. The team totaled eight hits in the game, including three extra-base hits. Claflin sophomore Christian Hill led the way with a one-for-three batting effort that included a two-run home run. He finished the game with two runs batted in (RBI) with a run scored. Senior third-base Kimon Quarles stayed hot with a three-for-three batting effort with a double and a run scored.

Claflin freshman Olin Evans (0-3) took the pitching loss for the Panthers. Claflin junior Xavier Campbell did the bulk of the work with three innings on the mound with a strikeout and just two earned runs allowed.

With the loss, the Panthers fall to 5-16-1 overall and 0-7 in Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play. The team will return to action, Tuesday, when they host the Savannah State Tigers in a single game on Tuesday.
