ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (2-2) had to claw their way to a 62-37 homecoming win over the Voorhees University Tigers (4-0). Though the final score didn't show it, the Lady Panthers had to put on a strong effort to pull out the win over a feisty Voorhees team.
Strong defense is becoming a hallmark of the Lady Panthers and it showed in today's game. The team forced 30 turnovers by the Tigers and held them to shooting just 33.3% (13-39) from the floor. Offensively, the Lady Panthers had to go against some tough defense and it showed with the team shooting just 35.6% (21-of-59) from the floor. Claflin graduate guard
Janelle Sample led the way when she scored a career-high 23 points in the game. She went nine-of-17 from the floor with four three-pointers in the win. She also added two steals, a block, and five rebounds. Senior guard
Nya Morris added 12 points with four three rebounds and an assist.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 2-2 overall. The team will return action in prime time when they host the Allen (S.C.) Yellowjackets, Tuesday evening.
