SALISBURY, NC - Claflin senior guard Nya Morris hit a pair of key career milestones to lead the Lady Panthers (8-6, 4-3 CIAA) to a 65-61 win over the Livingstone Lady Blue Bears (4-12, 2-4 CIAA), Thursday evening. In addition to scoring a career-high 29 points in the game, Morris also scored her 1,000^th career point as a member of the Claflin Lady Panthers.
 
The fast-paced game saw the Lady Panthers stage a fourth-quarter comeback to take the win and to open Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division play with a 1-0 record. Morris led the Claflin effort with a career-high 29 points. She also recorded four steals and a blocked shot in the win. Fellow senior guard Janelle Sample also added 13 points and she tied for the team-lead with six rebounds in the win. Senior forward Leigha Harris added 10 points and six rebounds as well.
 
It was a fierce fourth quarter comeback that keyed the win for the Lady Panthers. After trailing by as many as eight points, a Morris lay-up with 7:32 left in the game gave the Lady Panthers a 54-53 win. Just prior to the final minute of the game, Sample put the Lady Panthers on top for good with a three-pointer with 1:04 left to play to put the team ahead, 63-61. The team would then go on to seal the win with some terrific defense.
 
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in CIAA play. The team will return to action, Saturday, when they head to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to take on the Winston-Salem State Rams.
