BLUEFIELD, WV - The Claflin Lady Panthers (4-1, 1-0 CIAA) opened Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play on a high note when the team took a dominant 75-47 road win over the Bluefield State Big Blue (4-4, 0-1 CIAA), Thursday evening. The Lady Panthers combined some terrific play at both ends of the court to claim their third straight road win of the season.
The Lady Panthers took the win by combining a terrific offensive effort with some stellar defense. As a team, the Lady Panthers held their opponents to just 47 points and shooting just 21.4% (12-of-56) from the floor in the game. The team also forced 33 Bluefield State turnovers in the game. The Lady Panthers were equally impressive on the offensive end of the court where they shot a scorching hot 56.3% (27-of-48) from the floor with six three-pointers made. Three Lady Panthers finished the game with double-digit scoring with junior guard
Tyra Floyd leading the way. She finished the game with 20 points while senior guard
Ariel Lucas and senior forward
Ashari Lewis added 15 points each in the game. Lewis also added a game-high six assists as well. Defensively, sophomore center
Olivia Randolph led the way with four blocked shots and five rebounds.
With the win, the Lady Panthers claim their third straight victory and open CIAA play at 1-0.
