ETTRICK, VA - The Claflin Lady Panthers (5-1, 2-0 CIAA) utilized their trademark defense to roll their way to a 63-49 road win over the Virginia State Trojans (6-3, 1-1 CIAA). The Lady Panthers combined a balanced offensive attack with another great defensive effort to claim the win.
The Lady Panthers took the win behind some great play at both ends of the court. Defensively, the Lady Panthers put on a terrific defensive effort that is becoming the team's hallmark this season. As a team, the Lady Panthers held Virginia State to just 49 points and shooting just 30.0% (18-of-60) from the floor in the game. The team also forced 15 VSU turnovers. Offensively, the Lady Panthers utilized a balanced attack to claim the win. Four Lady Panthers reached double-digit scoring in the game with junior guard
Tyra Floyd leading the way with 17 points and three rebounds. Sophomore guard
Mia Lewis added 14 points with four rebounds while senior forward
Ashari Lewis recorded 13 points with three steals, and an assist. Senior guard
Ariel Lucas recorded 11 points in the game.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 2-0 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will close out their CIAA road trip, Monday, when the team heads to Elizabeth City, North Carolina to take on the Elizabeth City State Vikings.
