ORANGEBURG, SC - The Claflin Lady Panthers (13-9, 8-6 CIAA) clamped down on defense to claim their second straight win with a 64-52 win over the Shaw Lady Bears (9-14, 5-8 CIAA). Though the usually potent Lady Panther offense struggled throughout the game, the team was able to find other ways to claim the win.
The Lady Panthers had a tough time hitting shots, but that did not stop the team from taking the win. As a team, the Lady Panthers shot just 35.2% (25-of-71) from the floor, including just 23.1% (six-of-26) from the three-point line. The Lady Panthers put on a balanced performance to claim the win. Claflin senior guard
Janelle Sample led the way with 16 points in the game, including hitting four three-pointers in the game. Senior forward
Leigha Harris added a double-double 14 points with 10 rebounds while junior forward
Ashari Lewis added 12 points with nine rebounds off the bench as well. Senior guard
Nya Morris added 11 points with three steals.
With the win, the Lady Panthers improve to 13-9 overall and 8-6 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play. The team will return to action next week when they head to Fayetteville, North Carolina to take on the Fayetteville State Broncos.
