Claflin Baseball Set to Face Rival Benedict

Orangeburg, SC—The Claflin University baseball team will travel to Columbia, S.C. to take on intra-state rivals Benedict College in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) three-game series. Due to inclement weather in the area, the series, which was originally scheduled for a double-header on Saturday and single game on Sunday Apr. 2-3, will now be played as a doubleheader on Sunday and single game on Monday, Apr. 3-4.

Both dates are set for a 1 p.m. first pitch

Claflin, 14-19 overall and 7-2 in the SIAC, currently sits in second place in the East Division of the SIAC behind Paine College.

The Panthers has a well-balanced offensive attack, as they have six players averaging .300 or better. Reginald Rogers and Jabari Brown are the top offensive starters as they are batting .337 and .321, respectively. McKinley Leverette, who has played in 11 contests, is averaging .367 to lead Claflin. Michael Kendrick, Rashad Hilton and Elliott Melton are batting .322, .306, and .300, respectively.

Lyndale Morley, this week SIAC Pitcher of the Week, leads the pitching staff in conference with a 3.00 ERA with a win-loss record of 3-0.

Claflin will travel to Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker College in at 3 p.m. single game.
