Claflin Face Bluefield State in Home Series

Orangeburg, S.C. --The Claflin University baseball team will be hoping for similar result as last year when the Panthers host Bluefield State College this weekend at Historic Mirmow Field.
 
The three-game series gets underway Friday at 4 pm. followed by single games on Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
Claflin will bring a 1-10 record into the series after suffering a heart-breaking 8-5 loss to Coker College on Wednesday.
 
Bluefield State is 1-3 following a doubleheader spilt with Paine College of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by the scores of 8-5 and 3-5 last weekend.
 
In last year's three-game set in Orangeburg, the Panthers won two-of-three from Bluefield State.
 
In the first game, the Claflin bats came alive, pounding four Bluefield State pitchers for 13 hits in a 17-2 rout. Darrell Langston blasted a pair of home runs in leading the Panthers Claflin offensive attack.
 
In the second game, it was all about pitching as three Panther hurlers held the Bluefield State offense in check as Claflin won 4-3.
 
Jamal Devine picked up the win, allowing five hits over five innings of work, while Dillon Parker pitched a perfect seventh for in the save.
 
Bluefield State avoided the series sweep by winning the third game by a 13-8 score.
 
Langston has been on a hot streak for the Panthers over the last six games, hitting a sizzling .536 (15-for-28) at the plate. He currently leads the team with a .409 batting average, three home runs and 12 RBIs.
 
Other top hitters for the Panthers include Jonathan Parnell II at .395 and Grayland Fowler with a .289 mark for the season.
 
Claflin and Bluefield State has met five times on the diamond since 2014 with the Panthers holding a 3-2 advantages. Claflin has outscored Bluefield State 44-28 in those games.
