Claflin Baseball Host Benedict for Senior Night

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University baseball team will host Benedict College in its last home game of the season, Monday, Apr. 22.  First pitch is set for 6 p.m.  
 
It will be senior night at Historic Mirmow Field where three senior members of the track and field program as well 13 members of the baseball team will be honored in a pre-game ceremony at approximately 5:30 p.m.
 
This is the second matchup of the season between Claflin (22-12) and Benedict, who enters the contests with a 14-15 record.  In their meeting on April 10, the Panthers came away with an 18-8 routing of the Tigers.
 
In that contest, Eric McElveen led the Claflin hitting attack, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs and 5 RBIs followed by Clyde Parker at 2-for 3 with two runs and 3 RBIs.
 
Other top hitters for the Panthers included Jalen Sprulll, who was 3-for-4 along with an RBI and three runs scored, Craig Hopkins with a hit and 2 RBIs and Nicholas Johnson added two hits. Edzaviah Paul scored four runs for Claflin.
 
Angel Morel picked up the win on the mound for the Panthers.
 
On the season, McElveen leads five players batting over .300 averaging .398.  McElveen also leads the team in hits at 43 and is second in homeruns with four. 
 
Clyde Parker (.396), Gerardic Dobbs (.365), Craig Hopkins (.356), and Nicholas Johnson (.302) are all batting above .300
 
Hopkins leads the team in the homerun department with five while Parker leads the team in RBIs with 35.  Dobbs and Parker have also recorded 42 and 40 hits, respectively.
 
On the mound, Makai Holloway, Dillon Parker and Cleveland Westbrook all have five wins for Claflin.  Holloway leads the team in the ERA category at 3.29.
 
Benedict is led offensively by Brandon O'Connor and Myles Snype who are batting .437 and .417, respectively.  Snype has 43 hits with three homeruns to lead the Tigers.
 
Pitcher Ricardo Pagan has made 11 appearances with three starts and leads Benedict with 11 wins on the season.
 
Claflin will close out the season on the road vs Winston-Salem State University.  The Panthers will face the Rams on Saturday, Apr. 27 at 6 p.m. in Greenville, SC in the HBCU Classic and will then travel to Winston-Salem, NC to face the Rams in a true road game on Sunday, Apr. 28.
