Eric Mitchell had a great career with the Claflin Panthers men’s basketball team. Throughout his career, Mitchell was a standout student-athlete and he He began his career by earning a spot on the all-conference freshman team in 1983 and he earned freshman player of the year honors as well. He added all-conference honors to his resume in 1986 and 1987. He also earned both all-tournament and all-conference honors for three straight seasons. He ranked 13th in the nation in the NAIA in field goal percentage in 1987. He also finished his career as the all-time assist leader. At the end of his career, Mitchell scored over 1,000 points. The pinnacle of his career came in 1986 when the Panthers won the EIAC Championship. Following his collegiate career, Mitchell earned a tryout with the Long Island Surf of the United States Basketball League (USBL).
