Kershena A. Dickey had a great career for Claflin women’s basketball. She played four seasons with the team. In 1993, she earned several honors. She was named to the all-tournament team at the Virginia State HBCU Tournament and she was named to the Claflin College/Nation’s Bank All-Tournament Team. She earned the EIAC Player of the Year Award along with being named to the EIAC All-Conference Team. She was also a star in the classroom during that season as she was named to numerous academic teams. She earned the Athlete’s Academic Award as well as the National HBCU Tournament Women’s All-Academic Team. She also earned the Athlete’s Academic Award. She returned for a terrific effort during the 1994 season as she was honored as the Garden City Classic MVP along with earning a spot on the EIAC All-Tournament Team and the EIAC Conference Captain’s All-Academic Team. As a senior, she earned several more honors as she earned a spot on the EIAC All-Conference Team, and she earned First Team EIAC All-Tournament honors. In addition to her great performances on the court, she was also impressive off the court as she was honored as Miss Claflin University.
Following her athletic career, she continued to achieve. She served as a track & field/cross country, and basketball coach in Sumter, South Carolina. She went on to continue her professional and coaching career in the Charlotte, North Carolina area. She went on to obtain a Master of Education degree as well as a Doctorate degree from South Carolina State University.
