Norvell A. Chambers had a terrific football career for the Claflin Panthers. During his career, he had several achievements at the quarterback position. He ranked 15th in the nation in passing between Small Colleges and Universities. He also earned second team All-SEAC honors during the 1959 season. He also played basketball with the Panthers where he earned a starting position.
 
Following his career, he returned to his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and working in the Philadelphia Public School System before getting drafted into the United States Army. While in the military, he tried out and made the Post Football Team where he led the team to a 2nd Army Championship and Co-Champions for the 1961-62 season. The team also won the 1962 Missile Bowl game which was televised nationally.
 
Chambers went on to have a very successful career in the military and in his professional life afterwards, including numerous Superior Performances, Special Act and Services, Quality Increases, and Special Contribution Awards during his 30-year tenure. He was also involved in several organizations such as Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., the NAACP, Coach Laurel Athletic Association, and as a member of Battery Park Tennis Association.
