Richard Blake had a strong career with Panthers football and he followed that career with an equally impressive professional career. After his great career in college, Blake returned to Brevard, Florida to coach football and teach. During his time there, he became an assistant coach at Rockledge High where he became Brevard County’s first African American principal. After desegregation, he was named principal at Cocoa High School in 1979 where he continued to be a guide and a mentor for students, teachers, and others. For his terrific career and his community efforts, the Brevard County School Board unanimously voted to name Cocoa Jr./Sr. High School’s Stadium the Richard “Dick” Blake Stadium.
