Herbert W. Beard had a terrific career in multiple sports at Claflin University. He finished his career with six total Most Valuable Player (MVP) Awards across two different sports. He was a four-time MVP in track & field, and he was a two-time MVP in men’s basketball. He earned all-conference honors in both different sports, and he was a team captain in men’s basketball. He was equally impressive in the classroom where he earned the team highest GPA in men’s basketball three times. After his graduate from Claflin University in 1987, he went on to have a successful career in law enforcement. He has also gone on to serve as the Senior Pastor at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church.
