Don Alvin Brock was a key member of the Claflin Panthers men’s basketball team. He earned a scholarship and played four seasons. During his time, he earned the title of Team Captain prior to his graduation in 1966.
Following his collegiate career, Brock went on to have a very successful coaching career. He began his coaching career at Augusta’s Tubman Junior School. From 1972-1997, he served as a teacher and the boys basketball coach at the Academy of Richmond County in Augusta, Georgia. During his career, he won 11 sub-region championships along with eight region champions and earned six state playoff championships. During his career, he was chosen as coach of the year in 1977-78, 1982-83, and 1986-87. He was also named the CSRA Coach of the Year six times. He has earned the Region 4 AAAA, Region 3 AAA, the Georgia Coaches Association, and the Georgia Athletic Directors Coach of the Year honors as well. He was the first African American head coach and athletic director at ARC. During his tenure as boys’ basketball head coach, he led his team to more that 325 wins. For his tremendous efforts, eh was also inducted into the Statesboro Hall of Fame in 1991.
